Officially decorated at a solemn and colourful ceremony on Friday 11 July 2025 in Buea, new Superintendents of Prisons and Major Chief Warders have been urged to fly the flag of discipline, commitment and honour.
The graduation culminated months of in-service training that traditionally precedes promotion to higher rank, as provided in Decree No. 2010/365 of 29 November 2010 on the special status of penitentiary personnel.
The 2009 batch of warders graduated into Superintendents of Prisons while others from the 2009 and 2004 batches jointly became Major Chief Warders.
The event took place at the ceremonial ground of the National School of Penitentiary Administration – ENAP, presided over by the Director of ENAP, Senior Administrator of Prisons AYUK Bernard AGBOR.
A total of 33 Superintendents of Prisons, trained in rigour, loyalty, and excellence, received their attributes of command in an atmosphere filled with dignity and recognition. Their shining epaulettes testified not only to their merit but also to the regained lustre of the Penitentiary Administration (PA).
Beyond the pomp and pageantry, the ceremony translated a firm and resolute political will – that of restoring the nobility of the corps. Under the enlightened leadership of the Minister of State, Minister of Justice, Keeper of Seals, assisted by Secretary of State, DOH Jerome PENBAGA, the PA is experiencing a true renaissance. Their constant commitment, closeness to the staff, tireless availability, day and night, illustrate a sincere passion for public service, a deep love for the institution, and an unshakeable faith in its men and women.
Thanks to hierarchy, the corps is staying strong and focusing on excellence. May these newly acquired epaulettes not only be worn but lived in honour, responsibility and justice. May they serve as a permanent reminder to the oath of service, to vigilance, and an invitation to professionalism.
